It’s what most visitors imagine s sleepy Greek Island to be, with more than 300 whitewashed churches, windmills and easygoing inhabitants.

Then it was on to Delos ( Apollo’s birthplace ), Santorini ( the lost Atlantis? ), Naxos ( Ariadne’s Isle), Ios and Paros. And I was forever hooked-on Greece, its islands and budget yachting.

But a week later, well-tanned, and with a score of new friends, we agreed it was money well spent. The entire voyage was thrilling, and the islands were, and are, beautiful.
