Athens, A Top Destination For Vacations

Greece, a country with great history. Athens, the eternal capital, mother of philosophy, democracy and theater yet one of the most cosmopolitan cities on earth. A place where you can visit apart from the famous Acropolis, a great number of other significant ruins and museums. In addition, you can relax on clean beaches, taste traditional Greek food and have fun in various theaters and clubs.

Have the chance to experience old Athens by staying in a comfortable hotel in Plaka, near the Acropolis. This old neighborhood of Athens hasn’t changed much since the past. The small old houses with their old-fashion architecture will attract your attention. It is here where time seems to have stopped.

In these five days in Athens you’ll have the time to see a more than just the capital of Greece. You will go on a tour to Delphi, the religious center of ancient Greece, to admire its archaeological treasures. On your next tour to Cape Sounion, you will pass by the posh southern suburbs of Athens, the Attica Riviera. In this way you will have a general view of Greece and a lot of new experiences.

Day 1: Good Morning Athens

Today is the day of your arrival in Athens. Check in at your hotel, situated in the Plaka area, near the Acropolis. Your afternoon is at leisure. Explore the ancient ruins and shop in a department store near Syntagma square or in a touristic one in Plaka. Taste local dishes like mousaka, pastitsio, souvlakia and baklava while drinking retsina wine and listening to bouzouki music. Do not not hesitate to dance syrtaky! Probably tired but undoubtedly happy for your new experiences, you will spend your first overnight in Athens.

 

Day 2: Athens

After breakfast, your four hours cultural sightseeing tour of Athens will start. You will visit the Acropolis, the new Acropolis Museum and its surroundings. From the Acropolis hill, you will have a breathtaking view of the surroundings. The Agora, the Observatory, the Democracy hill ( Pnyx ), the Philopappos Hill and the Mars Hill will definitely amaze you . You will also admire the theater of Dionysos as well the Odeion of Herodus Atticus where ancient Greek drama was first staged.

 

Upon finishing your tour, you will have plenty of time, as the rest of the day is at leisure. If you wish, you can on your own some very interesting museums. The Museum of Cylcadic Art, the Archaeological Museum and the Benaki Museum are unique.

 

If you want to have some quality time later on in the evening, why don’t opt for live entertainment? A theatrical performance, a musical, a Classical Ballet performance or a concert seem the perfect idea. Try the Concert Hall of Athens or the Stavros Niarchos Foundation to have an unforgettable experience. At the end of the evening, you will go back to your hotel for your second overnight. (B)

 

Day 3: Athens-Delphi-Athens

In the morning, you will start your one-day trip by coach to Delphi, the belly-button of earth. The ancient Greeks were calling it like that because they believed it was the center of the world.

 

The sanctuary of Delphi was dedicated to god Apollo and was set within the most spectacular landscape. It was for many centuries the cultural and religious center and symbol of unity for the Hellenic world. People were coming here from all over the world to get Apollo’s oracle through the mouth of his priestess.

You will visit the archaeological site and the Museum with a great number of archaeological treasures.  The unique bronze statue of the Charioteer, dedicated to Apollo, will surely attract your attention. After visiting the Delphi site, you will start your drive back to Athens, passing by the famous winter resort-village, Arachova. People come here not only to ski but also to see celebrities. Day 4: Athens-Attica Riviera

Your morning is at leisure to explore maybe the old Athens and Plaka area. Stroll around the narrow streets of this old village of Athens to admire its traditional architecture. Take pictures of the small yards and gardens and of the beautiful cats. Go all the way up the hill, close to the Acropolis, to take panoramic pictures of Athens.

 

In the afternoon you will go on a four hours tour to Cape Sounion.  You will travel along the coast of the Attica Riviera to visit the Temple of Poseidon, overlooking the Aegean Sea. King Aegean was waiting here for his son, Theseus, to come from the palace of King Minos in Crete. You will return to Athens to spend your last overnight at your hotel. (B)

 

Day 5: Farewell Athens

Enjoy your breakfast in your hotel in Athens and then collect all your personal belongings from your room. This is the end of our services. Have you still got some free time before your flight? A visit to the Byzantine Museum or to art galleries downtown would be a good idea.
