Plaka area, Athens, Church

Visit cultural and religious places of great interest in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Greece is not the country associated with the rise of Christianity at first glance, but a number of places played an important part in the New Testament and large amounts of it were written here. This Pilgrimage Tour of Greece and Asia Minor will take you in the footsteps of St. Paul, St. John and St. Andrew. It will take you to one of the Seven Churches of Revelation and to the island where Revelation itself was written.

Although St. Paul was not one of the Twelve Apostles, his role in spreading the gospel of Christ is enormous. Our religious tour of Greece will take you from Athens‘ agora where he preached gospel to the Athenians, to the towns of Ephesus or Corinth that are forever linked with St. Paul’s name in their letters to them.

One of the most amazing parts of the Bible is definitely the Book of Revelation. The text itself states that St. John was on Patmos, when a heavenly figure instructed him to write down his vision. Despite centuries of development Patmos managed to remain one of the most idyllic places on Earth.

Another apostle we shall follow is St. Andrew, his story is mostly connected to Patras, a place where his relics are still kept and places were he had been martyred.

Andrew is said to have been martyred by crucifixion at the city of Patras (Patræ) in Achaea, on the northern coast of the Peloponnese. Early texts, such as the Acts of Andrew describe Andrew as bound, not nailed, to a Latin cross of the kind on which Jesus is said to have been crucified; yet a tradition developed that Andrew had been crucified on a X-formed cross
